Biblical Wisdom In Plain English
The God Who Never Runs Out
There are some things about God that we will never fully comprehend. We can study His Word, examine His creation, explore His works, and marvel at His wisdom, but we will never come to the end of God. He is infinite, while we are finite. How do you compare extreme limitation with unlimited proportions? How do you compare Solomon’s wisdom or even the brilliance of the greatest minds of our generation with the omniscience of Almighty God? We can discover, but God already knows. We can investigate, but God created what we are investigating. We can measure time, but God created time. We can study humanity, but God created humanity. That alone should put us in awe of Him!
Genesis opens with the declaration, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Before there was humanity to acknowledge Him, God was already God. Before there was a human mind capable of understanding Him, His wisdom was already infinite. Before there was a human voice capable of worshiping Him, He was already worthy of worship. God did not create because He lacked something. He created from the abundance of His sovereign will and power. Then He created something extraordinary- humanity.
Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image…” Think about that! The God who created galaxies, oceans, mountains, stars, and living creatures created human beings in His image. He gave us the capacity to think, reason, create, communicate, love, remember, imagine, and worship. The human body alone should cause us to stand amazed. The heart beats, the lungs breathe, the brain processes, the nervous system communicates, the immune system protects, and countless biological processes operate together without us consciously commanding them. You did not design your own body, but you awakened inside a body you did not build!
David understood this when he declared, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). Notice his response to the wonder of humanity “praise!” The best response to discovering the greatness of creation is to worship the greatness of The Creator. Even the genealogies of Genesis deserve our attention. Genesis 5 records the generations from Adam to Noah and gives the ages of these patriarchs. As we look at Genesis chapter 5, we can see the trajectory from the birth of Adam (first man created) to the birth of Noah to confirm the timeline of humans before the flood.
Then, Genesis chapters 9:28-29, chapter 10, and chapter 11:10 -32, takes us to the birth of Abraham. But, for amazing facts to highlight Genesis creation of mankind look at these facts. Note: Adam was 130 years old when his son Seth was born which means they both lived simultaneously for 800 yrs. Adam was 235 when Seth’s son Enos was born which means Adam lived simultaneously with Enos for 695 years. Adam was 325 when Enos’ son Cainan was born and they lived simultaneously for 605 years.
Adam was 395 years old when Cainan’s son Mahalaleel was born and they lived simultaneously for 535 years. Adam was 460 years old when Mahalaleel’s son Jared was born and they lived simultaneously for 470 years. Adam was 622 years old when Jared’s son Enoch was born and they lived simultaneously for 308 years. Adam was 687 years old when Enoch’s son Methuselah was born and they lived simultaneously for 243 years. Adam was 874 years old when Methuselah’s son Lamech (who is the Father of Noah) was born and they lived simultaneously for 56 years.
It is really mind blowing that each of these men existed during the lifetime of Adam and must have known him and probably asked him about creation and what life was like in the Garden of Eden. Adam was 930 years old when he died. But the contrast in science or evolution declares human existence according to: The Human Lineage (Ho minimum) is (6 to 7 million years old), the Genus Homo (2.5 to 2.8 million years old); Modern Homo sapiens (315, 000 years old); and Civilization (10,000 to 12,000 years old) but the records of the Bible proclaims differently!
However, the significance is not simply in counting years, but the significance is that God is the God of Creation and it begins and ends with God. Humanity changes, generations come and go, kingdoms rise and fall, civilizations disappear, scientific theories reconstruct, and human knowledge adapts to cultures. But God remains Sovereign which means “God does not run out! Creation did not drain Him. History has not exhausted Him. Billions of prayers do not overwhelm Him. Your need does not diminish His resources. Your crisis does not consume His power.
Your problem does not become too complicated for His wisdom. You may be exhausted, but God is not. You may have reached the end of your resources, but God has not. You may not know what to do, but God already knows the best plan. You may see no way, but God is “The Way.” Psalm 147:5 declares: “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” Infinite means there is no shortage in God. He does not ration His wisdom. He does not conserve His power because He is running low. He does not become weary because billions need Him at the same time. (Can you imagine if 8 billion people had to wait in line for God to answer each of us).
Well, God can pour and never become empty! That is why we should stand in awe of Him. When you look at the human body, you should worship the Designer. When you look at the universe, you should worship the Creator. When you consider generations of humanity, you should worship the Ancient of Days. When you discover something new about creation, don't think God has become smaller but realize that creation is revealing another glimpse of how great the Creator God is. And perhaps the greatest wonder of all, is that the God who created humanity did not abandon humanity.
After sin entered the world, He pursued us. He preserved Noah. He called Abraham. He established His covenant. And ultimately, the Sovereign Creator entered humanity through Jesus Christ to redeem the humanity He created. That is sovereignty and love beyond comprehension. So, when you reach your limitation, remember His infinity. When you reach your weakness, remember His strength. When you reach your ignorance, remember His omniscience. When you reach your inability, remember His omnipotence. And when you reach the end of yourself, remember you have not reached the end of God! You cannot exhaust Him. You cannot deplete Him. You cannot diminish Him.
He is God and that’s just the Way it is! And when everything we know has passed away HE WILL STILL BE GOD! David said in Psalm 145:3: “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.” So, remember: Don't measure God by your limitations.Don't measure His power by your circumstances.Don't measure His wisdom by what you understand. And never mistake your exhaustion for His depletion. His sovereignty has no limits. His wisdom has no bottom. His power cannot be depleted. His glory has no end!You may reach the end of yourself, but you will NEVER reach the end of GOD!
