Just Keep It Simple! Count Your Blessings And Not Your Problems!

As I meditated to hear a word from God for ELC, I came up with the subject: Just Keep It Simple! So, I thought about how complicated we have made living a saved life in our world today! It has become so complex because we have interjected so much of our own ideas of what we feel salvation to mean. Yes! There has always been different beliefs in religion but the foundation should stay the same, so you’re not building on sand that will eventually crumble.

So, let’s keep it simple and first start by asking: “Do you want to be saved?” Have you come to the realization that you can’t live life on your own principles and abilities? Although, you did not want God’s intervention in your life, life has taught you that you need God’s intervention, and you can’t make it on your own. So, again: “Do you want to be saved? If yes, then just keep it simple and do what the Bible said by following Jesus’ commandments!

Jesus said in St John 14:6: “…I AM the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” Then Jesus said in St John 14:15: “If you love Me, keep my commandments.”  So, what are His commandments to be saved? You’ll find the answer in Romans 10:9-10 which said: “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

But, if you err along the way, then I John 1:9: helps you get back on track. It says: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Now, this is the foundation for basic salvation to build upon as you continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18) And then, you continue to live according to the commandments of God until Jesus calls you home or raptures you.

Matthew 24:13 said: “But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”  So, maybe that was a Word for whoever needed it!  But then I was impressed to encourage others with a simple text I received from my sister. In the text she said a song came to her mind that was sung at our old church when we were children. The song was: “Count Your Blessings!”

She reiterated how people should be more thankful for the blessings of God like we use to do. In time past. We would clap our hands, sing songs, and thank God for all He had provided for us, when we didn’t have ¼ of the things we have now. But, still today, we are more inclined to count our problems rather than count our blessings. We focus more on negative things rather than the positive.

When in actuality, we would have a happier life if we gave more attention to the blessings we have and less focus on the problems. So, why not allow yourself to be happy for all your blessings and turn your problems over to God in prayer, because He can handle it. The refrain to the lyrics in the song said: “Count your blessings, name them one by one, count your blessings, see what God has done! Count your blessings name them one by one, Count your many blessings, see what God has done.”

So, for the next 21 days, write down ten blessings God has given you in the past, present, or something you know is in the process of happening. It may be the same thing each day or you may have something different each day. Also, if God answers a prayer request within those 21 days be sure to write it down and give thanks.

But, each day, you must be sure to give God praise along with singing this song i.e. “Count your blessings” or a song of praise. This will take us to just about the end of the month. So, be passionate about doing this and not lackadaisical, saying within yourself “if I have time!” Thank God that He has given you time! And after 21 days, see how much better you feel after counting your blessings rather than counting your problems!
