Biblical Wisdom In Plain English

It’s Hard, But My Mind Is Made Up!

One of the greatest pitfalls for Christians, that makes life hard, is when they will not endure sound doctrine.  2 Timothy 4:3 said: “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

The other day I heard two supposedly Christians talking on a tv program (one a pastor and the other a national minister). But I was astonished at their conversation. They started off mildly talking about Christianity and the world. Then they suggested that we should not just write songs of worship to God but write songs for people to dance at their weddings. They went on to speak of the significance of mixing secular principles with Christian principles.

The statement was made, if it were not for secular movies and singers, Christians would not know how to be romantic with one another. They also stated if you asked a Christian what their favorite “love song” was, it would not be a Christian song but a secular song. Really? But, what about Christians who don’t listen to secular music? God, help us! That is definitely not “sound doctrine!”  And where in the Bible does it say: “In order to learn about love we need to go to the world as Christians?

The world loves its own! So, they write songs to the world and not to the church. That’s why St John 15:19 said: “If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.” So, why or how should I say, can Christians have a bonding relationship with the world and be an enemy of God at the same time?

James 4:4 said: “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.” So, if God is the epitome of love, why wouldn’t you seek God for true love and not worldly lust? Later, in the program, it was said that famous people are now becoming committed Christians even if they’re lives are vacillating at times. Their examples were: Chris Pratt, Justin Beaver, Kanye West, Denzel Washington, and Nancy Vuu. Really?

Some of these people I’m aware of, but I haven’t seen this sold-out commitment they spoke of! But I do pray in due time they will yield wholeheartedly and give themselves to God; and the weak saints will just stay away from them! So, let’s not make up things to get a point across!  But I was even more disgusted when they made the statement of how our world has changed.

They said the secular world has become more judgmental and critical of the Church while the Church has become more loving and tolerant of people’s weaknesses, because God has commanded us to “judge not!” They complained that the secular world has become hypocritical Pharisees by setting norms of what the Church should be doing and if they break the norm of what they consider to be sin, they judge and become secular Pharisees. That’s shameful for the world to have to teach the body of Christ!

But it’s good to the point that the world condemns the Church’s actions, because if the Church is not listening to sound doctrine given by sincere Prophets, maybe they’ll listen to the world that they’re trying to be like, who don’t accept or agree with their compromised lifestyle! It really grieves me to see what is supposed to be the Bride of Christ living such a whorish lifestyle.

So, even though it is inevitable that hard times will come in this life and surely there will be a great falling away, some of us are determined to be the remnant that stands for Truth, and not bow to this world’s system nor the backsliding church.  So, it may be hard, but some of us have made up our minds to go all the way with Jesus!
