If Jesus Is The Reason For The Season What’s Your Reason For Celebrating
First of all, whoever heard of a celebration whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, award ceremony, etc. and the honoree is excluded from receiving any recognition or very little at all. The participants participating in the celebration receive all kinds of gifts, meals, presents great and small; and they get to invite family and friends; but no one ever mentions the reason for the season of celebration.
As a matter of fact, the honoree is almost ignored or forgotten. Most of us would say that’s terrible or downright rude and someone needs to tell those ungrateful participants that’s wrong. Well, isn’t that true for what a lot of people around the world are doing when Jesus is the reason for the season? But I’m asking you what is your reason for celebrating the Christmas season?
It is said that Christmas is the number one holiday in the world; and the favorite national holiday in America, placed before Thanksgiving. Approximately 85% of Americans celebrate Christmas! It is also said Vermont is the most celebrated Christmas state with the most Christmas farms per capita and has maintained this lead for the last 4 years. It is estimated that the millions of people who will be engaging in buying gifts and paraphernalia for this Christmas season will spend about 8 billion.
But I wonder do people even know the reason for the season? Well, let me inform you of the reason for the season? Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came from heaven to save a dying world. Jesus is the fulfillment of St John 3:16 which said: “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
So, the reason there is a Christmas is because of Jesus entering the world over 2,000 years ago born of a virgin by the name of Mary. He fulfilled the prophecy that a Messiah or Savior would be born to redeem mankind of their eternal damnation. But Christmas is not the end, but the beginning of a new life in Christ; because this same Jesus will return to the earth to gather those who Believe in Him and take us into eternal life, where we will live forevermore in joy and happiness.
So, it is important for us to celebrate Jesus not only because this is His birthday but also to remind us that He’s coming back again for us, and therefore we should be prepared to meet Him at His coming. So, for all the reasons you may be celebrating this Christmas season make sure you are celebrating it for the most important reason. Yes! Enjoy the festivities of Christmas and your family, and your friends and the gifts.
But make sure you don’t forget to remember the reason for the season and the true purpose for your celebration, or Christmas loses its purpose! So, invite Jesus to your Christmas celebration and make sure He’s the guest of honor and given all the praise, honor, and glory He deserves first, before you celebrate yourself and others. And remember to say: “Happy Birthday Jesus! I love you!"
